One of the most renowned architectural treasures in New Orleans will soon be offered to the national real estate market. Built in 1855-1857, this opulent raised villa mansion was built by a local green grocer to show off his immense wealth.

Mr. Adams, who designed the mansion himself, included the most sumptuous details in his architectural masterpiece. Boasting 14 (fourteen) foot ceilings in all the downstairs main rooms with 2.5 foot elaborate plaster mouldings in each room, and a center hallway 27 feet long. The Adams house features a rare set-off circular spiral staircase leading up to its second story. From the right side of the hall, one enters a double parlor (two living rooms) which flows into the dining room. All three rooms boast original Italian marble pieces. From this sumptuous dining room, one enters into a complete top-to-bottom kitchen of Cypress cabinets with commercial-equipped hardware including: convection oven, deep fat fryer, double refrigerator, and full freezer. At the end of the long front hall is a small breakfast room which leads out to the swimming pool, cabana, and its hidden bar and half bathroom. The outdoor patio is adorned with multi-flora including Roses on trellises, Angel Trumpet plants, and Azaleas. A perfect place for outdoor entertaining.

The left side of the front hall leads to three rooms, including an exquisite library lined with bookshelves from floor to ceiling, which are trimmed with gold leaf. The walls are covered with a silk of Italian origin, azure blue and gold. The second room is the Chinese Room, complete with its own Chinese-painted wallpaper with matching hand-painted curtains in a similar pattern. This charming sitting room has an 18th-century Chippendale Chinese carved Pine mantel in the Chinese Mode. The third room beyond is the magnificent large bedroom, covered in French gold and silver silk brocade with its own ensuite bathroom and walk-in shower.

Upstairs boasts the large primary bedroom complete with an Art Deco primary bathroom covered in marble with double sinks, a walk-in marble shower with bench, and a large-scale bathtub with jacuzzi fit for a Roman Emperor. The room also features a walk-in wooden bench sauna with room for five people. Across from the primary bedroom to the left and right are two smaller bedrooms separated by a shared full bathroom with shower and bathtub.

The outside garden enjoys two major two-hundred-year-old “Live Oak” trees, multi-plantings of Azaleas, Roses, Agapauthus, and a large selection of awed Auiellias shaded by three tall Palm trees, all bordered by trimmed Boxwood hedging from front to back.

The mansion sits on a corner of a city block in the prestigious Garden District of New Orleans, a stone’s throw from the iconic St. Charles Avenue, within a very short walk to all the many parades New Orleans is so famous for.

The back of the second floor of this house features two bathrooms, a sunroom and office area, as well as a laundry room. Closets abound in this mansion, and light streams in both floors through the many French windows on all sides of this building.
